Sustainability

Byrne Group understands and acknowledges the role we have to play in building a sustainable future.

Our ISO 14001 certified Environmental Management System (EMS) plays an essential role in the governance of our operations.

We continue to make great strides in managing the environmental aspects and impacts of our business and remain committed to developing innovative solutions to control these. We have enhanced our monitoring and reporting system to ensure that our decisions are based upon sound data that is responsive to, and reflective of, the changing demands of the Group.

The Group embraces the use of hydraulically bound material as aggregate replacement, where appropriate. Using this technology, a group project saved in the order of 20,000 road miles and beneficially reused 18,750 tonnes of waste material on site.

Since January 2014 Byrne Bros. has used over 50,000 tonnes of responsibly sourced steel. Enough to construct eight Eiffel towers.

Through our commitment to the principles of continual improvement, we have achieved notable advancements within the fields of waste management, energy efficiency and the decarbonisation of key construction processes. We will strive to improve future performance by embracing innovation to further streamline our construction methods toward the aspiration of truly lean construction.

Alongside our robust EMS, the Group is proud of its achievements in relation to the responsible sourcing of materials as demonstrable by the Group companies’ certifications including BES6001 Framework standards for responsible sourcing, Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) and Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC).

Continual investment in our fleet and commitment to the reduction of carbon emissions have  resulted in an HGV average age profile of 4.25 years. This ensures that our emissions remain lower than that required under the London Low Emission Zone.
