Strategic Objectives and Targets
Our ISO 14001 certified Environmental Management System (EMS) plays an essential role in the governance of our operations.
We continue to make great strides in managing the environmental aspects and impacts of our business and remain committed to developing innovative solutions to control these. We have enhanced our monitoring and reporting system to ensure that our decisions are based upon sound data that is responsive to, and reflective of, the changing demands of the Group.
The Group embraces the use of hydraulically bound material as aggregate replacement, where appropriate. Using this technology, a group project saved in the order of 20,000 road miles and beneficially reused 18,750 tonnes of waste material on site.
Through our commitment to the principles of continual improvement, we have achieved notable advancements within the fields of waste management, energy efficiency and the decarbonisation of key construction processes. We will strive to improve future performance by embracing innovation to further streamline our construction methods toward the aspiration of truly lean construction.
Alongside our robust EMS, the Group is proud of its achievements in relation to the responsible sourcing of materials as demonstrable by the Group companies’ certifications including BES6001 Framework standards for responsible sourcing, Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) and Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC).
Continual investment in our fleet and commitment to the reduction of carbon emissions have resulted in an HGV average age profile of 4.25 years. This ensures that our emissions remain lower than that required under the London Low Emission Zone.
We achieved over 96% diversion of construction waste from landfill during the construction stage when managing our own waste.
95% of paper purchased and used across Byrne Group to be Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®), Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) certified or recycled paper.
Achieve landfill diversion of 98% for non-hazardous construction generated waste when managing our own waste.
At Byrne Bros. we continuously strive for improvement in our environmental performance with carbon offsetting being an important element of our overall strategy. Our ongoing commitment to this end can be demonstrated by our own significant contribution to the Allstar Ecopoint Scheme which, in its entirety, has resulted in 1,786,883 trees being planted covering an area of 3,342 acres.
