Olympic Media Centre Car Park

Stratford, London

The design and construction of the multi storey car park for the International Broadcast Centre and Media Press Centre at the Olympic Park in East London was awarded to Byrne Bros. by Carillion Building.

The £15 million design and build contract consisted of a double height coach park at ground floor and three further suspended floors above to accommodate cars. Scope of works included earthworks and piling, frame construction and the installation of internal finishes and cladding.

The superstructure design was developed using a design for manufacture and assembly (DFMA) alternative with a precast concrete and component beam construction.

This provided a high quality product with the benefit of earlier completion.

Phase 1 of the 200m long and 50m wide structure was completed by late 2009, after which the car park could be used as a temporary facility for construction parking during the Olympic building programme.
