IBC/MPC Olympics 24hr Media Hub

The International Broadcast Centre/Main Press Centre (IBC/MPC) is a 24-hour media hub for around 20,000 broadcasters, photographers and journalists - which brought the London 2012 Olympic Games to an estimated four billion people worldwide. The IBC/MPC was built as a permanent structure, with some temporary Olympic requirements.
Byrne Bros. was awarded the concrete design and construction contract by Carillion. The brief was to design and construct the concrete superstructure including post tensioned slabs and precast columns from ground to fourth floor.

The building plan area measured approximately 35,000m2 and the works commenced from a completed lower ground floor slab and extended up to ground floor and 1st to 4th floors plus lift over runs.
The structure contained eight freestanding central cores. All reinforced concrete walls were constructed using a captive rail jumpform system. The post tensioned floors used a bonded strand system with a flying table falsework system designed to give a regular and repetitive high quality ply board pattern and fair faced finish through the floors.
