Safe Working Hours

500,000 safe working hours without one reportable accident has been achieved by Byrne Bros' Southgate Project in Bath, Avon, for Sir Robert McAlpine.

Responsible for the delivery of the ?28.5 million sub and super-structure over 66 and 33 weeks respectively, the scheme incorporates 56 retail units anchored by a 125,000 sq ft flagship Debenhams, 35,624 sq ft of leisure space, 93 apartments and a new 874 space basement car park. The site has been of particular archaeological interest with archaeologists working in adjacent areas to the basement box construction, running concurrently with their activities.

At peak the project was taking delivery of over 500t of reinforcement, placing in excess of 2500m3 of concrete per week and employing over 350 operatives.
