An article recently published by The Concrete Society magazine highlights the impressive structures delivered by Byrne Bros at the North London Heat & Power Project (NLHPP) in Edmonton. Drawing on the teams extensive experience in the Energy from Waste Sector, coupled with the use of Byrne Bros proprietary slipform kit, designed in-house ensured successful delivery of these complex structures.
At NLHPP, Byrne Bros collaborated closely with Acciona to optimise the concrete mix. By analysing proposed preconstruction mix specifications against historical data and forecasted volumes, the team identified a significant opportunity for improvement. Using the range of cement compositions allowed within current standards a 26% reduction in embodied carbon CO2e/m³ was achieved. This translates to a saving of 621 tonnes of carbon (tCO2e) when compared with the original preconstruction concrete mix designs for the waste bunker, all achieved without any impact to cost or programme.
The teams project-specific concrete mix tracker played a crucial role in monitoring and reporting the CO2e savings, further showcasing Byrne Bros’ commitment to sustainability.
A huge well done to our dedicated teams across the business whose hard work and expertise contributed to the success of this project. Additionally, we would like to express our appreciation to our valued client, Acciona, for the opportunity to deliver this critical project.
