Byrne Bros. apprentice wins award

Lee Marshall, Byrne Bros. apprentice, has been awarded the title of 'Apprentice of the Year' at the CONSTRUCT federation event 2014. Described as the highlight of the concrete industry's social calendar, the CONSTRUCT event saw 500 representatives gather from contractors and suppliers in the sector.

Lee was faced with stiff competition but defeated the other short listed nominees to win the award. Lee has been credited with showing a professional approach to his apprentice role, but helpful, friendly and respectful of his colleagues.

David Bunting, NCC Senior Instructor, who has delivered Lee's apprentice training said: "Lee's willingness to help the others in the group without being obtrusive or condescending is excellent. He is often used by the tutors to facilitate peer learning, helping both himself and others while freeing up the instructor to give one to one support to others in the group. Lee's practical application and theory are described as excellent, as is his timekeeping and attitude to learning."
