I joined the Byrne Bros. team at the Google project at the beginning of December 2018. To begin with it was for three weeks work experience just for me to gain some experience on site.
This was arranged through the K10 programme, which is designed to provide people like me with a valuable opportunity to have work experience in construction, and in this instance, with a view to start an apprenticeship in Formwork Carpentry, if successful.
I knew that an apprenticeship would help me to achieve more than being at college. The idea of gaining experience while working is invaluable, so I was keen to start and learn more.
To start off with, working on a such a large site was daunting, as this was my first proper job, and everything was new to me. However, as time passed by, with the help of the site team my confidence grew and so did my knowledge. I have now been on site for 5 months, have just started at college and I feel like I am making a positive contribution to the site team. I am looking forward to completing my Level 2 in English and Maths and learning more about formwork.
