SCOPE OF WORK
A large out of town retail development encompassing the UK's leading retailers, including flagship retailers John Lewis for whom a separate and individual building was created within the development. The scheme also included the construction of a new 900 space car park to service the needs of the retail development, and a grade three waterproof basement, both of which were constructed by Byrne Bros. As well as retail facilities, a new Magistrates Court was constructed for the town of Cambridge within the scheme. The development was constructed over a live road, which was required to operate as normal 24 hours to ensure deliveries were maintained to the existing retailers. The project was successfully constructed with a minimum of disruption to the four-star Crowne Plaza Hotel as a neighbour, presenting challenges in the way work was carried out. The development structure was primarily cast in situ concrete with pre-cast stairs. The car park was post tensioned with large open spans and spiral ramps. Due to the extensive use of glazing on the project, Byrne Bros had a substantial interface with both the cladding and glass roof contractors to ensure design quality between the packages. |
