People Management Awards

Byrne Group wins learning and development category

Byrne Group has worked on projects that have given shape to London's skyline, including the Emirates Stadium and, soon the 2012 Olympics. The diversity of its workforce (36 nationalities) creates its own challenges. In response, the company has developed a programme that gives all staff the chance to achieve NVQs in their chosen trades. Working with provider Construction Learning World, it developed on-site training methods that appealed to different cultures, including non English speakers. In the past two years 555 employees have gained level 2 NVQs.

LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT

The Learning and Development judging panel sought entries that were clear about the business objectives that prompted organisations to focus on creating a learning culture and the opportunities of developing individuals to influence the success of a common goal. Byrne Groups winning entry demonstrated a strong link between learning and development and business growth. The Group also excelled in creating an organisational culture where learning can flourish.
