Nearly 300 operatives have been constructing the large basement as part of a new 375,000 sq ft of office complex being developed by Stanhope. The Byrne Bros team is also building five cores and a concrete frame for more than 100 mixed housing apartments. Byrne Bros has constructed the deep two-storey basement located just two meters from the site of the Crossrail tunnel, consisting of 900mm concrete walls to take the weight of the cantileverd pile caps required. Establishing an ‘Early Logistics Centre’ on the project and the installation of six tower cranes, contributed to three office cores containing four passenger lift banks, stairwells and goods lifts to be constructed to a tight programme. Adopting the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for slipform cores, a technique developed jointly by Byrne Bros and Bovis Lend Lease, has produced an exceptional quality finish and achieved excellence in health and safety performance.
