Building Awards 2008

Byrne Bros has scooped not only the Specialist Contractor of the Year award, but also the coveted Constructing Excellence award at the industry leading Building Awards 2008.

The Specialist Contractor award focused on safety, quality and performance, featuring The Diamond Synchatron project in Oxford, a high tolerance research building in which exceptional quality was necessary; and the O2 arena, where without the aid of a tower crane Byrne Bros, slipformed eight reinforced concrete cores to support the roof.

Byrne Bros were described as the “stand out firm” in a shortlist that demonstrated the range and quality of today’s sub-contractors.

The Constructing Excellence award is the ‘best of the best’ category for which all category winners are eligible. Byrne Bros are the very proud winners of this prestigious award in 2008, described by the judges as a concrete contractor that exemplifies all that’s best about British Contracting today.

The judges described Byrne Bros’ achievements as "little short of magical" focusing on all aspects of the business and in particular on the safety culture which forms such an integral part of their business. Every operative receives on average 25 days of training each year, and Byrne Bros focus on health, safety and environment with the same level of intensity as production and quality.

To win the specialist contractor award was hugely flattering; to win the constructing excellence award and wider industry recognition makes everyone’s consistent efforts worthwhile.
