Our Health & Safety culture across the Group is based on values and dominated by the desire to send every individual home safe each evening. We aim to minimise adverse impacts upon the local and ultimately, global environment. Byrne Group has undergone a process of change and continuous improvement through personal commitment and desire to operate a best practice organisation. We strive for simple and effective systems to create universal understanding. Strong lines of communication and a culture of openness between management and the workforce are the essential keys to the minimisation of risk. Worker involvement in the choices made regarding PPE and systems standards has proven invaluable in achieving a consistently enforced and consistently upheld minimum PPE standard on all our projects in each of our companies. To allow our people to make safe behavioural choices, the Byrne Group has implemented a behaviour based safety programme (IIF). We elevate everyone's awareness of safety by making it personal, relevant and important to every single individual, such that it influences everyone's choices and actions. IIF saw the qualification of over 2600 people in the first twelve months, which has enabled us to achieve a consistent understanding of what is expected from a health and safety perspective. Each worker receives approx 25 days of health and safety training per annum, a standard which other companies struggle to compete with. We consider that investment in such levels of health and safety training deliver benefits way beyond compliance, and begins to push us towards best practice. In order to achieve excellence in health and safety performance our people need to know that we care, and they need to care about each other, we have a philosophy of 'being our own and each others safety advisor', we teach our employees to feel confident and comfortable in approaching each other and their managers on safety matters. |
